Bali
Tropical Island Paradise with Diverse Diving Adventures
Bali, the famed Island of the Gods, is also a world-class diving destination within Indonesia's Coral Triangle. The island offers remarkably diverse diving conditions: the east coast features the calm, warm waters of Tulamben and Amed with their volcanic black sand slopes; Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan to the southeast deliver thrilling cold-water upwelling encounters with oceanic manta rays and the elusive Mola Mola (ocean sunfish); and Padang Bai's Blue Lagoon offers easy, colorful reef diving. The USAT Liberty shipwreck in Tulamben is one of the most accessible wreck dives in the world, sitting just 30 meters from shore. Bali's diving caters to all levels, from absolute beginners to experienced technical divers.
Top Dive Sites
Manta Point
5-15mLocated off the southern coast of Nusa Penida, Manta Point is a cleaning station where oceanic manta rays with wingspans up to 5 meters glide in to be cleaned by small wrasses. Divers kneel on the rocky bottom and watch these gentle giants circle overhead, often at very close range.
Mangrove
5-20mA spectacular drift dive off Nusa Lembongan through a channel between mangrove-lined shores. The nutrient-rich currents attract Mola Mola (ocean sunfish) during the cold season (July to October), along with reef sharks, turtles, and schools of sweetlips and batfish.
Crystal Bay
5-30mA beautiful bay on the west coast of Nusa Penida, famous as the best spot in Bali to encounter the rare Mola Mola (ocean sunfish) from July to October. The site features a sloping reef with healthy hard corals, bamboo sharks, and stunning visibility that gives the bay its name.
Coral Garden
5-20mLocated near Tulamben, Coral Garden is a gently sloping reef covered with an extraordinary diversity of hard and soft corals. The site is perfect for macro photography, with nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, and colorful reef fish. The calm conditions make it ideal for all diving levels.
USAT Liberty Shipwreck
5-30mA 120-meter US Army transport ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942, later pushed into the sea by the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung. The wreck lies just 30 meters from shore and is encrusted with spectacular corals, sponges, and gorgonians, attracting schools of bumphead parrotfish, giant barracuda, and reef sharks.
Blue Lagoon
3-15mA sheltered bay near Padang Bai offering easy shore diving with exceptional marine diversity. The shallow reef is home to reef sharks, octopuses, cuttlefish, moray eels, and an impressive variety of nudibranchs. The calm, warm waters make it one of Bali's best sites for beginners and underwater photography.
